As governments tightening the restrictions to minimise the spread of COVID-19, more of us are getting affected. Companies are asking employees to work from home. Public events and social gatherings are cancelled. Most of us are advised to stay in. It is frustrating – having to cancel plans, being deprived of daily pleasures and social contact. Good news, every cloud has a silver lining. Instead of feeling frustrated, could you use this time to find joy in spending time with yourself? Do something meaningful, useful or simply fun? Here are a few ideas to make the most of your time in isolation.
1. Get your body in shape for the summer. It is that time of the year again, to start getting in shape for crop tops and bikinis. Great news, as the world unites to fight the pandemic, more and more companies are being responsible corporate citizens. DownDog app made all their apps free to prevent people going to the gym. You can do a HIIT, Yoga, Barre or 7-minute workout without leaving a house.
2. Reflect & improve your life satisfaction. How happy are you across different spheres of your life? Do a simple exercise ‘The Wheel of Life’ to find out. Draw a circle and divide it into 8 parts. Each part would represent different sphere of your life – Health, Career, Family, Relationships, Social life, Growth, Fun, Finances. This is the snapshot of your life. You can change, add, or remove the categories to represent your life most accurately. Rate each area of your life from 0 ‘not satisfied’ to 10 ‘very satisfied’. Draw a line across all categories and see where your life needs attention. This is a very insightful exercise that will help you take a holistic look at your life and reflect on what steps you might need to take to feel more satisfied.

3. Release your inner child and have some fun. When was the last time you danced like no one is watching? If you are stuck at home in isolation, no one is watching. If you haven’t heard of the Ecstatic Dance movement, you are in for a treat. All you need to do is play some tunes and dance in whatever way you feel like. You can jump, you can pretend you are a ballet dancer, you can twerk, whatever your heart desires. Try and get out from your head and move into your body. This is a beautiful practice to release negative emotions, embrace your playful side and make your isolated time a lot of fun. Turbulent time like this could be used as a great way to do all those things you didn’t have time for. Whether it’s something useful, meaningful or fun, stay positive. If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Cheers!
